Pokémon Battle Revolution – Mar 19 09 A

by admin on March 6, 2010

This is that treacherous time of night when the monsters come out to play, and those monsters happen to be mostly Japanese players who are really really good at the game, especially at prediction. Your moves and strategies will always be the ones most ill-suited to take them on, and whatever you think of, they’re one step ahead already. What really threw me off was that these were conventional OU Pokémon with moves I don’t normally would imagine Smogon suggesting. The Focus Sash is quickly becoming a favorite on Infernape, it seems. And with Swampert, I typically think Waterfall, Avalanche, Earthquake and the like–Bellossom is equipped to handle physical threats, so Swampert is something Bellossom can normally take on just fine. But not Swamperts who apparently pack Ice Beam and Earth Power, presumably among other moves. When Scizor appeared, I knew I was a goner–a Swampert with Earth Power means a Scizor on that team will almost certainly have Bullet Punch. I used Masquerain, Bellossom, Plusle, and Minun. My opponent used Infernape, Swampert, Scizor, and an unknown fourth Pokémon. (Did I get the spelling for Swampert’s Japanese name right?

If you mean doing Thunderbolt to Swampert, Swampert is immune to Electric attacks.

brunoopsss March 6, 2010 at 2:50 am

why you did not use the thunderbolt in Swampert at once?

The Choice Scarf is very important on Masquerain because once Masquerain can outspeed someone and one-hit KO them, Masquerain can continue to ravage the rest of the opponent’s Pokémon. With the Focus Sash, I could only get rid of one.

The other reason, of course, is that Plusle already holds a Focus Sash, and I follow PBR’s Item Clause.

a cool name to bellosom is BELAWSOMEE!!!

domnik25 March 6, 2010 at 4:02 am

why dont you put a focus sash at masqurain cause almost all attacks that are effective against it is ohko

It still is…just against fewer Pokémon than before. An unexpected Substitute can still cause a lot of trouble.

AlbinoAce March 6, 2010 at 5:46 am

That’s what makes DP go ’round these days. I used to love Substitute or Endure down to a pinch-stat-boosing berry in ADV, but with all the priority moves in DP, its simply not viable anymore.

i think infernape is the worst starter ever on the ds series

theGameCube March 6, 2010 at 6:54 am

will u be scared of my rattata and starly then?
lol i wanna battle u again

All first-strike moves are highly dangerous because they get a bit of damage in when you might want your Pokémon to hang on for as long as they can. It’s especially dangerous to Pokémon with Focus Sash or who rely on Endure.

A lot of people warned me about Bullet Punch Scizor before this match, so when I saw a Scizor in the opponent’s team, I knew to keep in mind that it probably knows Bullet Punch.

theGameCube March 6, 2010 at 7:59 am

lol how did u know there would be a bullet punch on scizor
and the shuca berry thing is funny
“minuns shuca berry weakens earth powers power!

theGameCube March 6, 2010 at 8:01 am

no
infernape is awesome!
i play with a japanese name overhazard do u remembe me

theGameCube March 6, 2010 at 8:29 am

why is bullet punch bad
its not super effective

Overhazard March 6, 2010 at 8:44 am

Yes, it’s illegal competitively if the two moves can’t be bred onto the same Pokémon. it DOES constitute cheating and can be used as evidence for cheating.

santiagogs15 March 6, 2010 at 8:48 am

i have a question with illegal movesets, i know it’s “illegal” having azumarril with bellydrum and aqua jet but is illegal competitively, or is it just a smogon rule?.
and yes i know that’s a cheap set, but i figured it out before i knew about that being “illegal”.

ladycurlzzzz March 6, 2010 at 9:09 am

Hm, i thought so and plus EB gets STAB and yeah you’re right, and i should give Grass Knot to Empoleon instead, anway thanks for your opinion.

Overhazard March 6, 2010 at 9:22 am

If you ask me, Energy Ball is better for Grass Pokémon because the damage is strong and consistent, and Grass Knot is better for non-Grass Pokémon as a surprise when someone tries to bring out their Groudons, Rhyperiors, Wailords, or whatnot.

ladycurlzzzz March 6, 2010 at 10:08 am

Whats a better move for Roserade, Grass Knot or Energy Ball?

kingkex23 March 6, 2010 at 10:17 am

its ur pokemon
if thats what u want 2 do go 4 it

nteli2201 March 6, 2010 at 11:12 am

i would love to have one with heatwave

travi8 March 6, 2010 at 11:26 am

you fail at pokemon

kingkex23 March 6, 2010 at 11:28 am

in that case aerodactyl would probably have iron tail or iron head
i prefer iron head because of the fact that it has a highert accuracy but idk maybe thats just me

FORAQUABLADE March 6, 2010 at 11:42 am

dont u think crushing bellosom with flare blitz would be slightly better as it would be out the battle then instead of missing 1 turn

Overhazard March 6, 2010 at 12:15 pm

Fake Out is always useful in a double battle. It’s sometimes hard to tell who has Fake Out though.
